I traveled in Egypt from the 2d of May 2005 to the 31st of May 2005.
After 8 months working in a factory, I just needed a break.
I choose Egypt for many reasons: architecture (obviously), the White Desert, the Red Sea and the fact that it's a cheap destination.
I visited in chronological order: Cairo, Pyramids of Gizeh, Saqqarah and Dachour, Oasis of Bahariyya, Black Desert, White Desert, oasis of Dakhla (include Mout, Al Qasr and Balat), Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Hurghada, Dahab and Mount Sinai (include Saint Catherine's Monastery).
I though about visiting the Oasis of Siouah and maybe Alexandria but finally I decided to stay in Dahab to do diving. In addition trip from Cairo to Siouah is quite long and I didn't have too much time left.
I used public transports (buses and trains) which are very developed there even to go in some oasis and which are really cheap.
Trains are more or less in good shape but rather comfortable. Buses are usually overfilled, don't have air con neither space for legs... Still they are the best way to travel a bit everywhere in Egypt.
I also took a boat between Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh.
I slept in cheap hostels which coast about 25 to 35 LE for one night.
One month was enough to see what I wanted to see, I even had some days left!
Note that the Lonely Planet exaggerate about the number of days you need to spend in some places (2 days for the Egyptian Museum when 3 hours are enough, 3 days for West Luxor when half a day is enough with a motorbike...).
Temperature start to be high from May especially In South of Luxor.
At the end of May, temperature in Dahab was 36 °C (and sea water temperature 24 °C).
Most of people visit places early in the morning. It's almost always true when visiting Abu Simbel where it is very hot!
Thus climate is very dry so much more bearable than a tropical climate with the same range of temperatures.
